Amelia is currently a freshman at Washington and Lee University. In high school, Amelia founded her school’s squash team and won her high school’s science award. Amelia is particularly interested in how fashion can reveal changes in history. Having lived in New York City her entire life, and having a brother that works in the fashion industry, as well as a mother that made a movie about major fashion icon, Iris Apfel, Amelia feels that she has a good eye to decipher the difference between personal style and trends. On the difference, Amelia notes “trends are more affected by the world around us [politics, culture and globalization] whereas personal style comes from within and is usually more original.” Amelia’s personal research interest are in children’s clothing and how fashion has evolved in the workplace, in particular how clothing and adornment communicate professional experience.
